    Lauren,

Hi again. I spoke to you previously about all the great places in Cali (we’re originally from sf bayarea but now live in ny) especially bi- rite ice cream. But guess what we’re heading to San Diego next week, and I just saw your blog. Were doing a long weekend stint in So. Cal then onto the bayarea to see family. Any insights on must eats and places to visit? I’m already going all out for Mexican, which any Californian knows can’t be beat anywhere else. The pancake(?) smothered picture you have on your site looks amazing, was it as good as it looked, if so please provide details on where to go. Thanks, and I look forward to hearing from you.

    Best,
    Renee

    • Hi Renee – love that we both love Cali so much:-) You now have my craving Bi-rite again…
I’m going to do a full review of some of my favorites but here are a few must-tries for you! Snooze Eatery for the pancakes and eggs benedict, El Pescador Fish Market for the fish tacos (or really anything seafood!), Los Olas at sunset for a spectacular view and pretty good Mesican, Moo Time Creamery in Coronado- it’s not Bi-Rite but their sundaes are pretty amazing, Juice Kaboose for the Pitaya Bowl (and juices), breakfast/brunch at The Cottage, and Neighborhood and Davanti for dinner. There are so many fabulous places but those are some of the places we went and loved. Have fun!

I live in La Jolla. Here are my favorite places to eat
Best, best, best happy hour is Roppongi on Prospect street. Happy hour is 3-6. All appetizers are half price. Fabulous!!!

Best cupcakes are Pure Cupcakes in Pacific Beach. They just won cupcake wars and they are so delicious. They’re on Garnet Avenue in the Von’s shopping Center across from Starbucks.

La Taverna on Fay Street in La Jolla. If you can go Monday or Thursday they have a five course Tuscan dinner for $24.95. Wonderful food, great service, cozy.

If you like shopping, go to Fashion Valley and eat at True Foods. Healthy, delicious food. I’ve been several times and the chicken chopped salad is so good I can’t get myself to order anything else, and everything else looks great!

  • Great pics and what a fun trip!! I live 2hrs North of SD and I think I’m gonna ask you for some things to do haha

  • So glad you had such a good time!! My husband and I have taken photos all over the world with my husband’s long arm stretched out. We love those shots! Looks like you got your fill of fish tacos, though I don’t know if I could ever have enough!
